半生 (はんせい) = half of a lifetime
半生 (はんしょう) = はんせい or half-dead
半生 (はんなま) = half-cooked (literally half-raw)
いい感じに半生 = nice and half-cooked
My tense/aspect may leave a bit to desired here but
"This (referring to the 串焼き) is liver, nice and half-cooked"

Japanese cuisine doesn't really shy away from undercooked (or indeed uncooked) foods and the rule of thumb is the less cooked, the better the flavour. Certainly true of fish in any case. One of Miki's favourite dishes is レバ刺し which is basically garnished raw cow's liver. Not an advisable dish to have because raw meat, especially liver, can contain bacteria and parasites that cause serious food poisoning. Half-cooked is better than raw though.

About 豚しゃぶ...
豚 = pig
しゃぶしゃぶ = Japanese hot pot
Japanese food tends to take a name of meat (or fish which isn't considered to be meat) and the general type of dish it is and combine the two before cutting off some bits to make it shorter to say, hence 豚しゃぶ.
Another example: カツ丼 (かつどん) which is 豚カツ (とんかつ) and 丼 (どんぶり).

Actually, I learned a lot about Japanese culture from researching for the DMN summaries I did with wrongun/Kibune. As Miki posts more and more about casual Japanese things I'm sure that will mean you learn more about Japanese culture as well.

Also, quite a lot of what I know about Miki has come from listening to DMN which is why I miss it. It was the main outlet for her honesty. Her love of レバ刺し is just one of many tidbits I got from the show. Most of everything else I know came from reading magazine articles, watching videos or the big Miki dork (hurtwou)!

Yup, that's a lot of the reason why I've started doing this. Once I get a little better at Japanese, I plan to start listening to DMN, cause there's undoubtedly a goldmine of new Miki tidbits to absorb there. XD

And yeah, I've been in contact with hurtwou for a while...who knows if I'd still be a Miki fan were it not for them, haha.

By the way, you don't happen to have AIM or anything, do you? XD Holding a conversation in comments gets to be cumbersome after a while. :P
