Mikitty Official Blog: 2009-04-14 11:55:00

I'm going to give translating Miki's blog entries a shot. I've only been studying Japanese for a year and a half or so, so if you notice any mistakes, please point them out in the comments (with an explanation so I don't make the same mistake again, if at all possible :P).

Also, sorry about the borders around the little Ameblo smilies...don't know how to turn those off. >.<
Hello

It's Fujimoto Miki. リボン

I've begun my blog. ニコニコ あせる

It's not my specialty but...

I'll write many things about myself. ガーン ニコニコ パー

Anyway, let's end things about here. にゃー リボン

Original entry here.

I just wanted to say that I think it's awesome of you to have taken on this project...and especially with only a year and a half of Japanese -- you're doing an amazing job!

One super minor thing about this post -- the この辺で in the last line, I think in this context it means more like "that's about it"/"that's about all"/"that about does it" (for this first entry). In general the phrase means "around here" or "in this (general) area," y'know? And I think in situations like this it's short for something like この辺で終わりにしましょう (literally: "let's end things about here").

Oh, and btw, I'm not positive, (I couldn't quite remember how we turned them off in ours ^^;...) but I think the borders around the Ameblo images are possibly due to this bit of code in your blog's template:
.post img {
padding:4px;
border:1px solid #cccccc;
}
(you can change it by going to Layout > Edit Template HTML)

But anyway, 翻訳を頑張ってね~ <3

First of all, I'm actually getting a lot of help from the Rikaichan Firefox extension...I only know about 120 kanji, so there's no way I could reasonably do this without that. XD

And thanks for that correction on the last line...I knew my translation there didn't sound quite right, but it was the best I could think of at the time. :P

Also, I tried removing that code as you said...and it worked! I'm really quite passionate about making these translations as close to the original entries as possible...and even something that trivial bothers me a lot...so thank you, seriously. :)

@LazyMan1:
I understand how you feel about learning Japanese...and just to let you know, that feeling never really goes away (or, at least, it hasn't yet for me, nor has it for most other people I've talked to). XD But that's the beautiful thing about learning Japanese (or any new language, for that matter)...you're always facing new challenges and gaining new knowledge about the language and culture all the time. :)
